Das Kapital

Das Kapital is a major written work by the German thinker Karl Marx. The full title in German is Das Kapital: Kritik der politischen Ökonomie, which means "Capital: A Critique of Political Economy." Political economy is the study of how economic systems work within society. The first volume of Das Kapital was published in 1867. The book examines how capitalism functions, how goods are produced, and how money and labor are connected. It is written as a detailed study of economic systems rather than a story or novel.

Karl Marx wrote Das Kapital while living in Europe during the 19th century. This was a time of rapid industrial growth. Factories, machines, and wage labor became common during the Industrial Revolution. Marx spent many years researching economic data, government reports, and earlier economic writings.
