Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was a German writer, poet, and thinker. He was born on August 28, 1749, in Frankfurt, a city in what is now Germany. He lived until March 22, 1832. He is often linked to the cultural movement called Romanticism, which focused on emotion, imagination, and nature.

Faust tells the story of a scholar who seeks knowledge and experience.

In addition to literature, Goethe studied science. He wrote about plants, colors, and human anatomy. Anatomy is the study of the body. Goethe believed that nature followed clear patterns. His scientific ideas were not always accepted by other scientists, but they show his wide interests. He also traveled widely, including a long journey to Italy, which influenced his art and writing.
