U.S. president during World War I

Woodrow Wilson was an American political leader and scholar. He was born on 28 December 1856 in Staunton, Virginia, in the United States. He later became the 28th President of the United States, serving from 1913 to 1921. Wilson is mainly known for leading the country during World War I and for his role in international peace talks after the war.

Before entering national politics, Wilson worked as a teacher and writer. He studied history and government and later became a university president at Princeton University. In 1910, he was elected governor of New Jersey. A governor is the head of a state government in the United States. His work as governor brought him national attention.

In 1912, Woodrow Wilson was elected President of the United States. At the start of his presidency, the country was not involved in World War I. The war began in Europe in 1914 and involved many countries. Wilson first followed a policy of neutrality, which means not taking sides in a conflict.

In 1917, the United States entered World War I on the side of the Allied Powers. Wilson asked Congress for a declaration of war against Germany. A declaration of war is an official statement that a country is entering a war. American soldiers were sent to Europe, and their arrival helped change the balance of the fighting.

In 1918, Wilson presented a plan called the Fourteen Points. These points described ideas for ending the war and preventing future conflicts. They included open diplomacy, freedom of trade, and the creation of an international organization. After the war ended, Wilson traveled to Europe to attend the Paris Peace Conference.

One major result of the peace talks was the Treaty of Versailles. Wilson supported the creation of the League of Nations, an international group meant to help countries solve disputes peacefully. Although the League was created, the United States Senate did not approve joining it. Woodrow Wilson died on 3 February 1924 in Washington, D.C.
